Scandinavian Modern Mirror with Concave Teak Frame by Jansen Spejle, 1950s

Danish Modern Teak Mirror by Jansen Spejle, Denmark, 1950s

A refined and quietly sculptural Danish modern mirror by Jansen Spejle, Denmark—an understated yet highly deliberate design where the subtle concave curvature of the frame defines the entire piece.

The solid teak wood frame is masterfully shaped with a gentle inward bow, creating a soft tension in the otherwise strict rectangular form. This controlled distortion elevates the mirror from a purely functional object into a design statement—minimalist, yet undeniably expressive.

Crafted in richly toned teak with a warm, mature patina, the frame showcases the restrained precision of high-quality Danish cabinetmaking. The proportions—measuring 73 cm high (28.7 in), 37 cm wide (14.6 in), and 4.5 cm deep (1.8 in)—strike a perfect balance between presence and lightness, making it easy to place while still visually engaging.

The preserved original label on the reverse—“M.J. Spejle” together with “Made in Denmark”— is a mark of authenticity that adds both historical context and collector value. Pieces retaining their original paper labels are increasingly scarce, especially in such clean condition.

Unlike more common flat-framed mirrors of the period, this example stands out through its subtle concave curvature and carefully worked joinery, placing it in a more refined tier of mid-century Danish production.

Ideal as a hallway mirror, bedroom piece, or integrated into a curated interior where quiet form and material quality take precedence.
