Vienna Museum of Applied Arts

About this Museum

The MAK in Vienna was founded in 1863, modeled after the educational mission of the V&A in London. Today, it continues to be a space of experimentation in the applied arts at the intersection of design, architecture and contemporary art.

Themed exhibitions and special events cover furniture, glass, china, silver and textiles from the Middle Ages to today. Highlights from the collection include Wiener Werkstätte craftwork, Thonet bentwood chairs and Gustav Klimt’s iconic frieze for the Palais Stoclet.
