Exceptional Mid-19th Century Falcini Centre Table

A rare and outstanding Florentine centre table, dating to the mid-19th century, executed in rosewood, ebony and fruitwoods, and enriched with floral marquetry of exceptional quality. The table is attributable to Luigi and Angelo Falcini, among the most distinguished and celebrated Florentine cabinetmakers of the 19th century.

The table is in excellent condition. The rectangular top is richly inlaid with a central oval bouquet composed of roses, lily-of-the-valley, bellflowers and daffodils, issuing from acanthus-leaf cornucopiae and accompanied by further floral compositions. The whole is framed by an elegant border of scrolling acanthus leaves and flowerheads. The table stands on four square tapering legs and retains two original paper labels affixed to the underside.

The Falcini brothers are renowned for the elegance of their designs, inspired by Renaissance tradition, and for the extraordinary quality of their marquetry, regarded among the finest expressions of Florentine craftsmanship of the period, particularly in the naturalistic rendering of floral and vegetal motifs.
