About This Piece

Vintage Design

10-light brass pendant lamp. The design is inspired by atomic shapes but with a curvature of the arms that makes it almost organic, similar to a flower. The arms are not rigid but descend from the central body with a double sinuous curvature, creating a sense of movement and lightness despite the brass structure. Excellent vintage condition with slight signs of wear.

About the Creator

Oscar Torlasco

Italian lighting designer Oscar Torlasco (born in Rome, 1934-2004) designed for a wide array of Italian lighting manufacturers including Esperia and Stilkronen, though he spent most of his career designing for Lumi.

Particularly active during the 1950s and 1960s, Torlasco’s lighting designs - which span sconces, floor lamps, and chandeliers - often utilized industrial chromed steel which he paired with more luxurious materials such as marble, crystal, and brass. His eclectic designs ranged in style from industrial and Space Age to Italian Art Deco. The use of optical glass lenses within his designs is considered Torlasco's signature. In 1959, he was awarded a Compasso d`Oro for his public street light Genova 4053 (1959).
