Nir Meiri

Israeli designer Nir Meiri was born in Tel Aviv in 1978. He studied industrial design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2007. From 2007 to 2009, Meiri interned at the prestigious D-vision program facilitated by Israel’s Keter Plastic Group, a leading plastics manufacturer. In 2010, he established his eponymous studio in Tel Aviv, focusing on both artistic and industrial design projects. Meiri relocated to London in 2014, opening up a second studio location there.  

Describing his work, Meiri tells us: “Carefully selected materials, often raw and wild, are shaped into clean-cut forms, creating innovative products that play on the tension between the domesticated and the untamed.” The designer notes his aesthetic is “elegant with a sense of humor.” His projects are often experimental and frequently explore unconventional and natural materials, such as sand and seaweed. Meiri produces his own range of products with an eye towards larger scale production by leading manufacturers. The studio’s designs are also sold and exhibited as unique pieces and limited editions by renowned galleries and institutions across the globe, including Nilufar Gallery and Spazio Rossana Orlandi in Milan, Mint Gallery and 19 Greek Street in London, as well as the Design Museum Holon and the Tiroche Auction House in Israel, among others.

Standout projects to date include: Desert Storm (2011), a lighting series composed of sand and metal, which earned a Notable design award from Core77 in 2012; Marine Lights (2013), inspired by the sea and constructed of seaweed, plastic, and metal; The Moons lighting collection (2014), inspired by the many faces of its namesake; Florence (2016), a series of copper, wood, and glass vases inspired by blooms in nature; and PairOfMirrors (2016), an elegant duo of stone, metal, and glass tabletop mirrors positioned one on top of the other.
