Marcus Tremonto

Artist-designer Marcus Tremonto was born in 1968 in New York. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Physics from Chicago’s DePaul University in 1990, followed by a Master’s in Fine Art from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1993. He established his eponymous art and design studio in New York in 2000, specializing primarily in experimental, technology-driven lighting. His work has been featured in a variety of exhibitions, including Lightworks, a 2007 solo show for Phillips de Pury in New York; the 2008 Swarovski Crystal Palace in Milan; the 2012 Digital Crystal exhibition at London’s Design Museum; and multiple exhibitions over the years for Spazio Rossana Orlandi at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. His work is included in numerous private collections, museums, and galleries.

In 2002, in addition to his ongoing solo work, Marcus co-founded Treluce Studios, a design firm based in SoHo, New York that he runs with his wife, Monica Tremonto (born 1968). The studio’s work ranges from jewelry and objects to lighting and furniture designs, and often recontextualizes and repurposes traditional designs. Treluce won Interior Design magazine’s Future Furniture award in 2006 for their PEK (Personal Emergency Kit) concept on 3D rapid prototyping.
