Daniel Schofield

Designer Daniel Schofield was born in 1986 in the town of Royal Leamington Spa, in central Warwickshire, England. He studied graphic design at Warwickshire College, graduating in 2003 with a National Diploma. He went on to work as an apprentice at a local carpentry firm, working on houses, offices, and historical restoration around the UK for the next three years. From 2008 to 2011, Schofield studied for a Bachelor’s degree in furniture and product design at Sheffield Hallam University in South Yorkshire, England, graduating with honors. While still a student, he spent the summers of 2009 and 2010 interning in the sales and interior design departments of contemporary furniture and accessories brand DDC in New York.

Schofield established his studio in 2012 in Sheffield; the studio moved to London’s Greenwich district in 2013. The young designer’s aesthetic combines simple, functional works with strong narratives. As Schofield puts it, “Design is about creating connections. If an object can connect to its space, material, surroundings, function, and user, then it will gain personality and longevity.” Schofield was awarded the New Design Britain Award in 2013 for his Shifty desk, Department table, and What a Corker! mirror (all 2013).
